Mandated Vaccines News
The Victorian Government’s COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions (Directions) require that workers in Melbourne and Regional Victoria in a category specified on the Worker List in Schedule 1 of the Directions must have their first COVID-19 vaccine dose by 15 October 2021 or have evidence by 15 October 2021 verifying a first dose booking for no later than 22 October 2021, in order to work on-site. Workers must have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by 26 November 2021 in order to work on-site.
An exception applies where a worker has obtained certification from a medical practitioner that the worker is unable, due to a medical contraindication or an acute medical illness (including COVID-19) to receive a dose, or a further dose, of a COVID-19 vaccine.
There are 34 different types of workers specified in Schedule 1 to the Directions. Each type of worker is defined in the Directions.
The Directions require an employer as soon as practicable after 7 October to inform each worker who will, or may be, scheduled to work outside the worker’s ordinary place of residence on or after 15 October 2021 that the Directions:
1. Require the employer to collect, record and hold vaccination information about the worker; and
2. Require the employer not to permit a worker to work for the employer outside the worker’s ordinary place of residence in breach of the vaccination requirements in the Directions.
This sample letter is intended to notify workers of the requirements under the Directions. The specific terms of the Directions, including relevant definitions, should be reviewed by employers before using this sample letter.
Note: This sample letter should not be used for workers who are subject to different public health directions, including construction workers, residential aged care workers, health workers and education workers
